About
the Phoenix Muslim School, Durban
South Africa (Est. 1998)
An academic curriculum (as in public schools) is
offered within an Islamic environment.
At present the Phoenix Muslim school is located
at the former spine road Jamaat Khana, and for the 2006 academic
year it accommodates approcimately 300 learners, mostly from lower
income families, half of which qualify for zakaat subsidies.
Alhamdurillah, we have seen the school grow from
strength to strength and as in line with our mission, each academic
year has seen the introduction of an extra grade. Currently, the
Phoenix Muslim School offers academic education up to grade 9, together
with an Islamic education.
The school is currently housed in 3 council homes,
accommodating six classrooms with additional three pre-assembled
units, which with the passage of time cannot accommodate any more
expansions.
It was with this in mind that the Phoenix Muslim
School entered into an agreement with the Phoenix Jumma Musjid Trust,
in terms of which, the construction of a fully fledged school with
classrooms, computer rooms, media centre, library and salaat facilities
for female leaners including hifz classes has commenced.
The cost of the construction is estimated at R5.4
million, of which, a portion has been raised. We still require substantial
financial assistance for the project, which is earmarked to be completed
by August 2006.
